@base has launched Basenames on their Base blockchain, aiming to make blockchain addresses more user-friendly using readable names like vitalik.eth or tom.base.eth, similar to Ethereum Name Service (ENS).
At the BaseCamp Summit, Base's Head of Product, Thomas Vieira, explained that Basenames will help builders connect and improve identity management on the blockchain.
Users can register a Basename by connecting wallets like MetaMask, Rainbow, and Coinbase Wallet.
There's also a webpage for searching and interacting with Basename addresses, and users can customize profiles with bios, social media links, and skills.
Basenames also act as an on-chain resume, verifying users' skills with blockchain data.
Vieira said Basenames help find collaborators and reduce payment errors by using recognizable addresses. Initially available to BaseCamp attendees, Basenames will be released to the public soon.
